Love

I did not ask for Love to be gentle
I did not ask for Love to be easy
or to make sense
or ever to sound of tumblers in a lock.
I did not go seeking for wounds to be unwounded,
I did not go seeking for wrongs to be justified,
or savage tears dried up;
or even the narrow passageways
of my mind to be filled with light.
Love is a crucible
a dance of swords
a thuderous wave on the shore
a car crash in the desert
the match, the spark, the flame.
I will not demand anything from Love
and when my secret promises are broken
I will make no claims before God's court.
Because
as they have said for eons
Love is a mystery
and even to wait to be mystified
is a distance that never closes.
